How to Crochet Sunflower Car Coasters

If you want to brighten up your car for spring, here is one simple way you can do that, Car Coasters! I never thought of doing anything like this, but one day as I was scrolling through Pinterest I saw the idea, and I knew I had to do it! I couldn't find a pattern that I liked... so I made my own. I am obsessed with sunflowers; naturally, I would choose that for the design.

If you want to see a youtube tutorial on how to make these, as well as a matching rearview mirror hanger, check out the video on my youtube:

I hope you enjoy this pattern. Let's get right into it :)

For this pattern we will be using the 3 double crochet cluster stitch, the single crochet, and the slip stitch. You will not need much yarn for this project. Because of this, it is a great project to use up scrap yarn! This is a simple pattern to follow. The most annoying part is all the color changes, but bear with me because it's worth it!

Abbreviations:

sc - single crochet

st - stitch

sl st - slip stitch

dc - double crochet

MR - magic ring

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn in four colors: green, yellow, caramel, and dark brown

  • 4 mm crochet hook

  • scissors

How to Crochet the Coasters;

Round 1: 6 sc in a MR with dark brown (6) sl st into the first sc to close up the circle. In this sl st, we are going to make a color change already. Insert your hook through the first sc, but pull the caramel color through to complete the sl st. Cut your dark brown yarn.

(The color change is shown in the pictures below)

Round 2: Inc around (12) Again we are going to sl st into the first sc and change colors here. Insert your hook through the first sc, but pull the yellow color through to complete the sl st. Cut the caramel yarn.

(At the end of this round, your work should look like the picture below)

Round 3: Sc around in yellow (12) Sl st into first sc.

Round 4: Ch 3. Yarn over, insert hook through first st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops. Leave two loops on hook. Yarn over, insert hook through the same st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through two loops. There should be three loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all three loops. Ch 1.

Yarn over, insert hook through next st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through two loops. Leave two loops on hook. Yarn over, insert hook through the same st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through two loops. Leave three loops on hook. Yarn over, insert hook through the same st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, and pull through two loops. There should be four loops on hook. Yarn over and pull through all four loops. Ch 1.

Repeat italics around. You should have 12 petals after this round is complete. To finish the round, after the last ch 1, sl st into the top of the first petal. Fasten off and cut yellow yarn.

Round 5: Join green in between two petals in a ch 1 space. Ch 3 in space. 2 dc into same space. Work 3 dc in each ch 1 space around. Sl st into ch 3 to complete the row. Fasten off and cut yarn. Weave in your ends.

And that's it! Make as many as you need for your car. I hope you enjoyed this simple pattern. Don't forget to subscribe to my blog, follow my instagram, and subscribe to my youtube to not miss any future patterns :)
