How to Crochet Mushroom Cap Car Coasters
Welcome back to my blog! Today I will be sharing a simple tutorial on how to make mushroom cap car cupholder coasters. This pattern is part of a small car accessories series with a mushroom mirror hanger (this pattern is already up and posted on my blog). If you haven't already, go and check that pattern out! Abbreviations:
MR - magic ring
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
inc - increase
Materials Needed:
medium weight size 4 acrylic yarn in white and red
4 mm crochet hook
darning needle (depending on how you want to do the dots you may need hot glue and felt instead)
scissors
stitch marker (optional)
For the coaster...
Round 1: with red yarn, ch 2 and 11 sc into MR, sl st into top of ch 2 (12)
Round 2: ch 2, inc around (ch 2 counts as a sc), sl st into top of ch 2 (24)
Round 3: ch 2, 2 dc in next st, (1 dc, inc) repeat around, sl st into top of ch 2, fasten off and cut yarn (36)
Round 4: attach white yarn to edge of red circle, sc around the coaster, loosely to avoid it curling in on itself, sl st into first sc, fasten off and cut yarn (36)
For the dots there are a couple ways you can do this: 1) cut small felt circles and hot glue them to the coaster, 2) crochet small white circles and sew/hot glue them to the coaster, or the method I used 3) using a darning needle and white thread, sew "sprinkles" onto the mushroom cap.
*Whichever method you choose, take into consideration that the felt and especially the crocheted circles will be more 3D and will make your cups not sit as level in the cup holders :)
