How to Crochet a Mushroom Guy

Hello, and welcome back to my blog :) Today we will be making a cute mushroom guy using acrylic yarn. If you made my simple teddy bear pattern, you may notice some similarities in the pattern as the body will be made the same. This is a beginner-friendly pattern as we will mainly be using the single crochet. Let's get right into it!

Abbreviations:

MR - magic ring

sl st - slip stitch

ch - chain

st - stitch

sc - single crochet

inc - increase

dec - decrease

Note: the number in parenthesis after each round is the number of stitches you should have after that round is complete.

Materials Needed:

  • medium weight size 4 acrylic yarn in white and red

  • 4 mm crochet hook

  • scissors

  • stitch markers

  • 10 mm safety eyes (you can also use black yarn to make the eyes and nose, if you don't have the safety ones)

  • darning needle

Next we are going to add the dots to the mushroom hat. There are a couple different ways you can do this... you can use felt circles and hot glue them to the hat, or you can crochet small circles and sew/glue them on, or you can use the same method I will be using, which is to use a darning needle and white yarn and sewing "sprinkles" on to the hat. I ended up making x's instead of sprinkles, but it is up to personal preference.

Attach the safety eyes to the head. Stuff the head and the body.

Attach a long piece of yarn to the back of the body and use a yarn needle to sew the head onto the body. Make sure that the head is facing forward, when you are sewing it on! When you reach nearly the whole way around, you will want to finish stuffing the head and body before you finish attaching the head.

When attaching the arms, use the tail that we left on the arm to sew it on. Stop about halfway around to stuff the arms slightly, and then finish connecting them. Hide all of your ends in the body.

Next it is time to attach the mushroom hat. There should be the same number of stitches on the last round of the hat as there is around the widest part of the head. You are going to attach the hat with red yarn to match the hat. Before you attach the hat completely stuff it slightly to help it keep its shape.

*Quick tip: when sewing on the mushroom hat you will want to be sure it does not move while you are stitching it on. One way to keep it from moving is to use stitch markers to hold it in place! (pictured below)

And that is all for today's pattern! I hope you guys enjoyed it. Check out my blog for more written patterns. I also have more tutorials on my Youtube as well. If you would like more free patterns check out my channel and subscribe!
